Hair Drug Testing via Lab Testing Solutions

Hair Follicle Drug Testing for DUI or Custody Cases

Hair Follicle Testing for drugs is the one of the only ways to get an in depth assessment of up to 90 days in the past to determine if someone has been using drugs. This is a great test for an employer or parent. Simple specimen collection and highly accurate results that meet the same reference standards as urine testing. In addition, there are no known methods for sample adulteration (hair washing will not dilute the sample). Because specimen collection can be directly observed, the risk of adulteration is even further reduced. We get the results back to you quicker: Negative results are reported within 24 hours of receipt at the laboratory, and positive results are confirmed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or gas chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS) within 48 to 72 hours. Hair testing is also forensically defensible. When compared with urine specimen testing, hair testing provides up to 2.5 times the number of positives and a longer detection window. Hair testing can test for the following classes of drugs: Amphetamines (including Ecstasy) Cocaine Marijuana Opiates Phencyclidine (PCP).  This type of test is best used for DUI cases or Child Custody Cases and DFCS.

Can body hair be drug tested like hair from the head?

Body hair can be drug tested as well. The growth rates for body are considerably slower than the hair from your head.  Substances may be detected in body hair for up to 1 year after the substance leaves the blood stream and can be challenging to detect as body hair grows at different rates for individuals.

How effective is hair follicle drug testing in detecting drug usage?

In comparison to a urine drug test - cocaine, PCP, opiates, and methamphetamine hair drug testing provides for a longer timeline as urine can only detect these drugs within 7 days of usage on average. Marijuana has a similar result as urine as it ha a longer span of residuals, however, it hair will only detect drugs after it has had the chance to grow for a week or more.  The detection period for hair is limited only by the length of the hair sample and is approximately 90 days for a standard screen.
